Auto Source Group is pleased to present this stylish 1966 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 in its original Verde Scuro over Nero factory specification.
The Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2, introduced in the late 1960s, was the marque's second production model, following the 350 GT.Debuting at the 1966 Geneva Auto Show, the Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 marked a significant evolution in the brand's lineup. Produced over a two-year span, only 224 units were built. The car featured a steel-bodied 2+2 configuration, with design work by Carrozzeria Touring. Notable variations from its predecessors included alterations to the roofline, incorporating larger side windows and a more compact rear windshield, alongside subtle yet comprehensive changes to the sheet metal.
Building on the foundation of its predecessor, the 400 GT 2+2 was equipped with a larger, more potent 3.9-liter V12 engine, delivering approximately 320 horsepower. This powerplant is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, featuring Porsche-style synchromesh on all gears, which significantly improves shifting precision and driving engagement. The accompaniment of the Borani wire wheel for the 400 GT added aesthetic appeal but more importantly, functionality for handling and reduced unsprung weight. Increased power and refined transmission offered a more dynamic and pleasurable driving experience, marking a notable advancement for Lamborghini at the time.
Presented here today is chassis #0766, which has undergone a meticulous, multi-year restoration to its original specification and is offered with a well documented history since the early 1990s of its four owners. Delivered from the Sant'Agata Bolognese factory to the East Coast Lamborghini importer in New Jersey, the car was initially received by Giles Kaplan, who then delivered it to a high-profile NJ client. After a few years of ownership, the car was sold off to a wealthy businessman in California. The California collector enjoyed the car along the California coast for several years to follow. In the early 1980s, the car was privately sold to Jerry Fandytis in Scottsdale, Arizona. A highly regarded specialist in Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 Spider conversions, Mr. Funditis kept the car in his collection until 1993. Although the car was never converted, it was fully resprayed in silver and reupholstered with a red leather interior during his ownership. In 1993, the car was acquired by Mr. Fliri, from Vancouver, BC, Canada. Shortly thereafter, it was relocated to Regina, Saskatchewan, where Mr. Fliri personally oversaw and completed a comprehensive restoration, returning the Lamborghini to its original glory. Mr. Fliri is a highly respected European automotive expert, having restored many vintage Lamborghinis in his lifetime.
This collector grade example still retains its original numbers matching drivetrain with factory stampings. Confirmed to be 1 of 8 originally painted examples in Verde Scuro. Recently certified by Ferruccio Lamborghini Historian Olivier Nameche.
