Description

Auto Source Group is thrilled to unveil a true automotive masterpiece: the 1957 Porsche Speedster (T1), this magnificent example finished in Ivory and enveloped by Red Leatherette — a time-honored combination that has aged well in Porsche's storied history.

Rutter Karosserie was a German coachbuilding company founded in 1906 by Wilhelm Reutter. Responsible for producing many early prototypes, early Porsche car bodies, the VW Beetle and most importantly the Porsche 356. After the war, a contract was established between Porsche and Reutter in November 1949 to produce 500 of the model 356 for Porsche. Thus, Reutter embarked on a symbiotic journey with the Ferdinand Porsche to realize a vision echoing the call of the discerning American automotive palate—a vision that would bring forth a more lightweight and sportier iteration of the Porsche 356.

Introduced in 1954, the Porsche 356 Speedster featured a minimalist, more aero dynamic design. It had a lower windshield, simple side curtains instead of roll up windows and a simplified interior. A recipe for a pure sports car. Produced over four short years from 1954 to 1958.

This Speedster before, bearing the "T1" designation, commenced its journey at the factory in November of 1956. It originally wore a resplendent coat of Red exterior paint and featured an elegant Black leatherette interior. Its factory-fitted equipment included Sealed Beam Headlights, USA Bumpers, Rudge Wheels complemented by Baby Moon HubCaps, a Type 644 Gearbox, and the unmistakable Beehive tail lights.

In 1994 this example was sent to Porsche 356 specialist, Stoddard Imported Cars inc. for a comprehensive 3 year high level restoration to be performed. At the request of the owner at the time, the vehicle was refinished in classic Ivory White over Red interior.

After several years of the Stoddard restoration being complete and the vehicle changing ownership, in 2016 the vehicle was sent to Jeff Adams of SST Auto Engine. Adams, globally recognized in the 356 world, was tasked to rebuild and tune its non numbers matching 1962 Super 90 Engine for better performance. Work consisted of a 356 Long Block, 912 heads with fresh valve job, 91mm piston and Nicasil Billet Cylinders rod set, 200mm flywheel, 200mm pressure plate with 644 ring and 200mm disc and Knecht Carburetors Rebuilt.

Complementing this comprehensive restoration, upgrades also featured 1964 Disc Brakes, a Leather-clad Nardi Racing Steering Wheel, and a fan shroud delicately painted in a shade harmonious with the factory's 1600 finish.

Today, this Speedster stands in exemplary condition, accompanied by an impressive ledger of receipts totaling $300,000—a testament to the restoration and services undertaken over the years. A piece of provenance that calls out to connoisseurs of the Porsche marque, this Speedster's enchanting history and its eligibility for The Mille Miglia cast depth upon the unique story of this Porsche 356 Speedster.

Sale includes: One Key, Complete Set of Factory Tools, Extensive Service Records, Extensive Restoration Records, Tonneau Cover, Spare Tire, Curtains Driver & Passenger, Owners Manual and Certificate of Authenticity.
